Meeting with members of the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention

The members of the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention on the Protection of National Minorities met in Cluj Napoca-Kolozsvár with NGOs that submitted shadow reports to the Romanian State Reports. The event, which took place on the 3 rd of April, 2017, was attended by Enikő Szigeti as the representative of the Civic Engagement Movement(CEMO), Bethlendi András representing the Advocacy Group for Freedom of Identity (AGFI), Toro Tibor representing the Hungarian National Council of Transylvania (EMNT) and the representatives of the Szekler National Council (NDP). At the meeting, the experts were informed about the present situation of the linguistic rights in the public administration and the situation of the education in Hungarian language. With the help of the shadow reports the members of the NGOs have been able to present the Romanian reality and in their reports, they identified a number of problems such as the lack of bilingual street names in various localities, the non-application of the articles related to the use of Hungarian language within the Public Administration as well as the outcomes of the strategic litigation cases initiated by CEMO.
